Thomas Todd Knell was born in 1965 in Provo, Utah, the son of Jewell and Lee Knell, local architect and artist. He had an eye for art from a young age, and received a BA in Design with an emphasis in Illustration from Brigham Young University in 1992. His work has been exhibited in the Springville Museum of Art, the Kimball Art Center in Park City, UT, and the Terra Nova and Repartee galleries in Provo.
Influences for his artistic approach include an interest in architecture and the works of Renaissance masters, with emphasis on the fresco style. He generally uses a combination of watercolor and plaster in his pieces, as well as incorporating encaustic techniques. He hopes to communicate the emotion of his pieces through the use of interesting colors and textures.
In addition to being an artist, he has worked in the BYUStore art department for 19 years as a supervisor of custom framing and art buyer.
He is married to Emilee Keith Knell and has six children. They currently reside in Provo, Utah.
